Graduate Admissions
Thank you for your interest in continuing your academic pursuits at the Bowie State University School of Graduate Studies. The School of Graduate Studies offers many opportunities for your professional growth as you strive to accomplish your career goals. The mission of the School of Graduate Studies is to serve the community, state, and nation by providing high-quality graduate programs, which fit into your schedule and are reasonably priced. We offer evening and weekend courses that are easily accessible with both on-campus and off-campus locations.
If you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree at Bowie State University on the main campus, or at one of our off-campus locations, you must complete an application for admission to the program of your choice. Additional information on programs and services may be obtained from the School of Graduate Studies or from the Office of Graduate Admissions.

A typed two to three (2-3) page statement of interest describing applicant's backgrounds experience, and goals
Three recommendations using the Graduate
International Students (Student Visa)
TOEFL/TWE scores (sent directly from ETS)
Course-by-course evaluation of all foreign course work (sent directly from World Education Services)
The Supplemental Information for I-20 Request form.
School Administration and Supervision
Copy of a professional standard or advanced teaching certificat
Proof of three years of teaching experience
Special Education
Typed two–three page essay on your philosophy of teaching diverse learners
Three professional letters of recommendation
Admission Requirements for the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership
Application to the doctoral program in Education Leadership requires evidence of the following:
▪ A master's degree in school administration or a closely related field;
▪ At least three years of recent successful administrative experience in an elementary or secondary school setting;
▪ A satisfactory score on the Millers Analogy Test (MAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Scores must be less than five years old and sent directly from the testing service center to Bowie State University;
▪ At least three professional recommendations from persons who can attest to the applicant's work experience; and,
▪ An overall GPA of 3.5 (4.00 scale) on previous graduate studies.
In addition, applicants must:
▪ Submit a completed doctoral program application form with a non-refundable application fee;
▪ Submit one official transcript from each higher education institution attended. Only sealed transcripts received directly from the college or university are considered official;
▪ Submit a letter of application addressing in detail the applicant's interest in the doctoral program, prior administrative experience, and aspirations as an educational administrator; and,
▪ Submit a current vita of career experiences.
Application materials are available from the Department of Educational Leadership or from the Office of Graduate Admission.
If you ever enrolled at Bowie State University as a degree seeking student, and have been away from the university for one or more semesters, you will need to complete an Application for Readmission. Applications for Readmissions should be submitted two weeks prior to registration.
