Web Sites for Citation Systems and Style Manuals
(http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/style_manuals.html) gives a general overview of the types of systems that exist and explains why citing is important.
UM's Guide to MLA (http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/citing_mla.html) updates and expands an existing guide. We anticipate that this will particularly helpful for students in English 101.
UM's Guide to APA (http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/citing_apa.html) explains and illustrates how to cite commonly used source types in APA style.
UM's Guide to Chicago/Turabian Notes System (http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/citing_chicnotes.html) and UM's Guide to Chicago/Turabian Author-Date System (http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/citing_chicad.html) explain and illustrate how to cite commonly used source types in Chicago/Turabian style.
In addition, these guides contain sample papers which illustrate how these citing conventions appear in a research paper and the basic formatting prescribed by these styles.
These can be accessed through the Ready Reference Shelf under 'Style Manuals' (http://www.lib.umd.edu/ETC/Reference.html#style) or through the 'Research and Library Skills' guides page under 'Basic Skills' (http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/library_guides_research.html). They are also cross referenced with the new Academic Integrity Initiative's Web site on academic integrity and plagiarism located at http://www.lib.umd.edu/UES/honesty.html.
