Tubman

Harriet Tubman Hall 

Building Type:  Tubman Hall is a traditional 3 story residence hall with double rooms, community bathrooms and showers. 
Occupancy: 162 Residents  
Gender: Female 
Classification: Freshman, sophomore, Junior, Senior & Graduate Students 
Staffing:1 fulltime Resident Director and 5 Resident Assistants.   
Building Amenities: Hall amenities include; laundry facility in the basement, air conditioning units in student rooms, lounge for studying, programs and socializing.  The lounge located off the lobby also includes vending machines and Direct TV. 

Harriet Tubman Hall is the oldest building on the campus of Bowie State University and opened in 1921.  Named after Harriet Tubman, leader of the Underground Railroad and heroine to the African American race this residence hall is known for having a strong sense of community.  It currently houses approximately 162 female students.  Tubman is very cozy and personal and it cultivates an environment that fosters the development of healthy well-rounded young women.   

Towers

Towers Hall

 Building Type: Six story high rise with double rooms and community bathrooms 
Occupancy: 192 Residents  
Gender: Female 
Classification: Freshman 
Staffing: 1 fulltime Resident Director and 5 Resident Assistants  
Building Amenities: Hall amenities include; laundry facilities and kitchenettes on alternating floors, lounge for studying, programs and socializing.  The lounge located off the lobby also includes vending machines and Direct TV. 

Towers Hall has been a part of the Bowie State University campus for 31 years.  This building was the home for the main administrative offices of University Housing.   Currently, it temporarily houses first time female students.  The First Year Freshman Experience begins in Towers Hall as the residence hall housing the largest number of freshman females.  The staff in Towers works to provide an environment that fosters a smooth transition for those students attending college for the first time. 

Holmes

Dwight Oliver Holmes Hall 

Building Type: Traditional 3 story residence hall with double rooms, community bathrooms and showers. 
Occupancy: 125 Residents  
Gender: Male 
Classification: Freshman 
Staffing:1 fulltime  Resident Director and 3 Resident Assistants  
Building Amenities:  Hall amenities include; laundry facility on the first floor, air conditioning units in student rooms, lounge for studying, programs and socializing.  The kitchen is located on the third floor and includes a small lounging area.  The lobby has Direct TV and vending machines. 

 Dwight Holmes Hall was built in 1951 and is the second oldest residence hall on the campus of Bowie State University.  Holmes Hall was at one time an administrative office building, a female residence hall and is now the male residence hall housing first year students.  The staff of Holmes Hall understands the plight of the African American male and is committed to the academic and personal development of this special population.

 

Haley

Alex Haley Residential Complex 

Building Type: Six Story Suite Style 
Occupancy: 318 Residents  
Gender: Male & Female 
Classification: Freshman, sophomore, Junior, Senior & Graduate Students 
Staffing: 1 fulltime Area Coordinator, 1 Graduate Assistants and 6 Resident Assistants  
Building Amenities: Hall amenities include; laundry facility floor lounges and kitchenettes on each floor, and a lounge.  The lounge located off the lobby is utilized for studying, programs, classes and also has Direct TV.  Other amenities include a Conference Room, Computer Lab, and the C-Store (Convenience).  

 Alex Haley Residential Complex constructed in 1994, is a co-ed residence hall.  Haley houses primarily first year students with some floors for upper class students.  This facility also houses the Office of Residence Life.  The staff of Alex Haley Hall supports and promotes an atmosphere conducive to high academic standards.  This environment strives to strongly connect residents and the university departments to create and maintain constructive academic relationships. 

 

Kennard

Lucretica Kennard Hall 

Building Type: Traditional 3 story residence hall with double rooms, community bathrooms and showers. 
Occupancy: 78 Residents  
Gender: Male 
Classification: Freshman, sophomore, Junior, Senior & Graduate Students 
Staffing: 1 fulltime Resident Director and 3  Resident Assistants  
Building Amenities: Hall amenities include; laundry facility and vending machines in the basement, the lounge located off the lobby is utilized for studying, programs, classes and also has Direct TV.  

Kennard Hall operated as an administrative facility for Bowie State University.  Within the past decade, the building was converted into a residence hall to meet both the growing demand for additional on-campus housing and to replace the loss of other residence halls during the construction of the Center for Learning and Technology.  Kennard Hall has housed both male and female residents, but now it specifically houses male students.  It is the mission of the Kennard Staff to develop goal-oriented scholarly gentlemen.

 

Goodloe

Don S. Goodloe Hall 

Building Type: Apartment Style  
Occupancy: 15 Residents  
Gender: Male & Female 
Classification: Sophomore, Junior, Senior & Graduate Students 
Staffing: 1 fulltime Resident Director 
Building Amenities: Apartments equipment with kitchens, air conditioning units and Direct TV Access.   Students contract with Direct TV for this service.  Laundry room in the basement.  

 Don Speed Goodloe Hall was named after the first president of Bowie State University.  The building is comprised of one and two bedroom apartments constructed in 1954 and was converted to student housing in the late 1980’s.  This facility houses male and female upper class students with a cumulative G.P.A of 2.70 and above.  With ‘Independent Living’ as its theme, the environment in Goodloe provides and opportunity for residents to experience ‘living independently’. 

  

Christa McAuliffe Residential Community (CMRC)

Building Type:2, 3 and 4 bedroom Apartments
Occupancy: 459 residents
Gender:  Female and Male
Classification: Full time BSU students who have successfully completed 24 hours of coursework
The Christa McAuliffe Residential Community is more than just a place to live -- it's a complete college experience. Activities are frequently planned by the Residence Life staff to make living here the most enjoyable experience ever.
Individually leased by the bedroom and designed with you in mind, CMRC offers 2, 3 and 4-bedroom apartments fully furnished and conveniently equipped with full kitchens. Rental fees include furniture, electricity, water/sewer, cable and Internet.

CMRC was named in memory of one of Bowie State University's most famous graduates. In 1986 she stepped from the classroom into history as part of a radical new approach by NASA. Christa McAuliffe was to be the first civilian in space. While her mission on the shuttle ended tragically, her mission as a teacher continues.
