Philanthropist,
Willie Gary
to Address Bowie State’s Graduating Class of 2006

Prominent
Attorney Mr. Willie E. Gary will deliver the keynote address to the
Class of 2006 during the One Hundred and Thirty-Eighth Annual
Commencement exercise on May 20. The ceremony will take place
at Bowie State University’s Bulldog Stadium at 9:00 a.m. Mr.
Gary’s Florida based law firm of 150 employees, Gary,
Williams, Parenti, Finney, Lewis, McManus, Watson & Sperando,
P.L., includes 21 lawyers and 8 partners and has represented over 7,000
clients. As
philanthropist, motivational speaker, and one of the
country’s leading lawyers, Mr. Gary has garnered national and
global media attention by winning numerous cases against enormous
giants such as hospitals, and chemical and insurance
companies. He has been featured in the “New York
Times” and “Black Enterprise” and has
made appearances on “60 Minutes,” “CBS
Evening News,” and “The Oprah Winfrey
Show.” In May 2002, he was featured in
“Ebony” magazine as one of the “100 Most
Influential Black Americans.” “Forbes
Magazine” has listed him as one of the “Top 50
attorneys in the U.S.”
Among Mr.
Gary’s many commitments, he is the chairman and chief
executive officer of the MBC Television Network, which includes the
Black Family Channel – the nations only African-American
owned and operated 24-hour cable channel whose vision is to provide
intelligent, family-oriented programming that embraces values in
business, entertainment, sports, ministries and government.
Mr. Gary
earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from
Shaw University. In 1974, he earned a Juris Doctorate from
North Carolina Central University. He has received numerous
honorary doctorates and in 1999 received the prestigious Horatio Alger
Award.
